whilst Im on a roll.....The Shadow of Tyburn Tree

Post by Diamondhairdan »

Though perhaps not quite as boys own, or as gripping as the first Rodger Brook novel, this is a worthy follow up. Mr Brook, having impressed Prime Minister Pitt with his daring and resoucefulness in France, accepts his offer of emplyment on the continent, and heads off towards Russia, via Scandanavia, where he meets with the beautiful but harsh Natalia Androvena. Again, the historical detail is immaculate, and the descriptions of the courts of St Petersburg and the like are fantastic. And all along the course of his heroic mission, lies the threat of his beloved Georgina, and the complicated death of her husband. The childhood friends know full well that it will only take a small eror of caution for their guilt to materialise, and then its just a short journey to the gallows at Tyburn. A cracking read.
