The 2016 Convention

Post by ken68 »

hello all,
i hope everyone is well and had jolly festive season.
it may seem a little early but as there will a considerable change to this years format and lots to plan for the special 10th convention and the commemoration of DWs death i thought it better to start now.

first of all we will only be having speakers in the morning, two people expressed an interest in having a spot this year, so if they are still of that mind would they please confirm that with either myself or charles. if anyone else would like to volunteer then same again, let me or charles know. really we only need three so be quick if you are interested.

secondly, the afternoon will be given over to playing the board games DW created. a real change of pace this and i'm really looking forward to it. we have talked about this for a while so it will be good to give it a go.

at the moment the plan is to have the games set up and we can rotate around them but also mingle and socialise a little. this should hopefully give us a chance to discuss the 10th convention much less formally.

lastly for now, field trips. these have been mooted over the last few years as well but we don't seem to be able to settle on anything. if anyone has an idea for a trip would they mind researching it and maybe doing a little program that people could peruse in the afternoon, then if anything catches our fancy we could discuss it. i have one in mind that will look into.

many thanks everyone for making these conventions so successful, and heres to number 9!!

updates will be posted a bit nearer the time, but if anyone wants to have a little something included then just drop a line to charles or myself.

It's a hard life, but we are out tonight researching some cocktails for the pre diner cocktail hour..... Things we do for DW.

There will be a couple of new additions to the menu.

Dear All,

Good news - I've just heard back from the hotel, and prices for this year will be the same as for last year.

i.e.

Friday night B&B
£109.00 Standard/superior double
£139.00 Deluxe rooms
£159.00 Suites

Saturday night plus Saturday Convention

£179.00 Standard/superior double
£199.00 Deluxe rooms
£219.00 Suites

As before, I assume the suite price is for their basic suite, and if you want one of the mega-luxurious suites they may charge a bit extra. If you're interested in the latter, let me know and I will find out for you.

Following last year's Convention where some people mentioned the desirability of an early closure date so we have early certainty on numbers, I am thinking maybe I should ask for firm orders as soon as possible - but no later than end September for all bookings.

Your thoughts welcome !

Best as always !

hello everyone, its nearly that time of year again so just a few items to keep things on track.

there is an email on its way to everyone with a copy of the back story and rules for alibi, please look out for it and read them in preperation. its from mary by the way, not me, just in case anyone is dubious about the email address.

see you all soon,
:D

Another great convention and very enjoyable weekend. Thanks to all who were involved in the organisation for this, your hard work is appreciated.

It was great to meet Colin, and it would be nice to see his musical become the success it deserves to be.

Sorry some of the usual suspects could not attend for various reasons, missed seeing you all, hope to see you all again next year. (Looking forward to that already).

I hope got home ok.
First off can I just say a few thanks, to Steve whately for his excellent programme's , Charles for dealing with the hotel and keeping them on track, to Franklin, Steve and Charles for supplying the games and all the speakers at this year's bash.
Also to bill and his friend Susan who helped Mary and I with some of the background work.
Apologies that due to the dinner on Saturday being a bit chaotic these weren't done with the toasts. We will put that down to the hotel or the bar man's generous measures!

Well I hope everyone enjoyed the 9th as much as we did, it really is great seeing almost everyone (hurry back Ken, viv, nic, Darren and Christine). It was brilliant fun and very entertaining.

The response to calls for next year's plans were great and it's already well under way. If anything comes to mind there's still plenty of time to have it included, but don't wait to long as I can't see it taking long to fill up.

Take care everyone and here's to 10

Dear All,

It's nice to see that everyone enjoyed it was much as Nat and I did.

I'll start a new thread shortly, but just a reminder that as agreed at the 2015 Convention, our tenth will be held on Saturday 11th November 2017 - again at Elstree.

The reason for the slightly later date is so we can mark the occasion of the 40th anniversary of DW's death on 10.11.77 on the Friday night.

Best as always !
