Greetings!

Post by Sir Pellinore » Mon 27 Feb, 2006 17:17:37

Good afternoon one and all. Just to introduce myself and say hello, hope to get to know you all in good time. Only just found the site, and couldn't resist but come in after reading the delightful introduction! Bit pushed for time at the mo', will pop back in later on, sans doubt with a glass of something warming at my elbow! Toodle-pip till then.

Good afternoon, Sir and welcome. We look forward with interest to your future contributions. Please take time to tell us how you met our hero in the How did you 'meet' DW? topic and/or any other items of interest to titilate our fancies.

Hello again! I'm afraid it must appear that I really have forgotten my manners, but every time recently I have tried to find a little while to attempt a worthwhile contribution to The Library, the world at large has demanded my attention in a most unsympathetic manner. I have, however, in snatched moments of reverie, been collating memories of how I became interested in the works of Dennis Wheatley, how he has had an imperative influence on the course of my roller-coaster life, and just how much I should reveal of it to the venerable members of The Library!

Another busy weekend ahead, I would hope to take up your kind invitation to explain how I "met" DW in the not too distant future.

Till then, Chin-Chin!

I've never really attempted to picture what any of the regulars on this site look like in the flesh. However, I can't shake the mental image that I've formed of Sir Pellinore in a claret coloured smoking jacket, cigarette holder dangling nonchalantly from between his teeth. One hand is holding a glass of gin, the other is tapping away on a mahogany lined computer! Welcome Sir P!

Well hello Garry, Nice to make your acquaintance!

Your not far wrong with your visualisation of me, apart from the cigarette. Used to steal my Father's cigars when I was eight and puff away on them hanging out of the bathroom window, tried a pipe when I was in my early twenties to see what was the appeal (and found it absoltely horrible!), and have smoked over two packets of fags through the course of an evening on more than a few occasions when socialising, but haven't taken a drag of anything other than fresh air for about five years now. Just seen to have forgotten about it. I agree with John Mortimer when he says (via his wonderful character "Rumpole of the Bailey") "There's no vice worth giving up for an extra five years in the geriactric ward", it's just that I find smoking more of a pain than a pleasure, can't stand waking up with a hangover compounded by a browned and stinking index and middle finger (especially if as a result of indulging in the killer weed), and other negative associations. I used to take snuff (a very quick and potent nicotine hit; but what goes up must come down - yeugh!), and Swedish snuff, which came loose or in little tea-bags which one would stuff between the lip and the gum.

But gin is most definitely a favourite tipple!

Cheers!
