Were any novels adapted for TV/ radio?

Post by gloomysundae »

I've just been reading your informative page on DW's filmed works http://www.denniswheatley.info/films.htm , and I was wondering if any of his novels and/or short stories had been dramatised for TV or radio?

In 1964, it was planned to do a TV series from the Roger Brook and de Richlieu stories, and in 1965 Wheatley mentioned that a new series in colour was also being planned around Gregory Sallust. However due to economic reasons, the projects never got completed.

Currently I can reveal that there is some interest being shown in a TV/film project. Don't hold your breath, but watch this space!!

It migjht be appropriate to mention here the two abridgements of DW novels done as audiobooks:

THE DEVIL RIDES OUT, read by Anton Rodgers

THE HAUNTING OF TOBY JUGG, read by Denholm Eliot

My cassettes are 25 years old, and probably don't even play any more; I don't imagine these have been transferred to CD.

I'm surprised Radio BBC 4 has never done any dramtizations of Wheatley's work. They are quite conducive to it.
