<< But, according to my inquiries, not one of Wheatley's 85 titles is now in print or on sale, other than second hand. Not one. >>

Well, that's nonsense, and I went through the complicated rigmarole of posting a comment to say so!

I thought the book was superb, and wrote a review on Amazon to say so.

Does anyone happen to have a copy of the Literary Review issue of December/January, in which it was reviewed by Andrew Lycett? I'd be very interested to read it, but can't find a way to buy back issues on their site.

Fortean Times at last managed to review The Devil Is A Gentleman in their June issue, which is in shops now.

In a short but effusive piece, FT's reviewer Jay Rath describes Phil Baker as 'some kind of....life-archeologist', and praises the book with phrases such as 'masterful account', 'sensitive and knowledgeable investigation' and 'insightful and sublime.'

The FT Verdict gives a rare score of 10 out of 10, and claims 'the biographer is an angel'. Steady on...

A bet this will put a smile on Phil Baker's face.
