The Devil Rides out get a mention on TV

The Scene: Twenty Four minutes into this evenings episode of 'New Tricks' (BBC1).

Dennis Waterman , who is investigating incidents at Pinewood Studio's mentions to one of the prosthetic makers that he always liked a good Horror Film. He then goes on to say to someone, "You must remember 'The Devil Rides Out'. He then asks the same question of another person.

Great publicity - Particularly if a remake of TDRO is on the cards!!!

Dear All,

Following on from 'The Devil Rides Out' we now have a nice reference to 'The Haunting of Toby Jugg'.

Many thanks to Barry Cronin, who emailed me yesterday to let me know that on the antiques programme 'Bargain Hunt', expert David Barby, when quizzed about his goth credentials, owned to reading DW when younger, and mentioned The Haunting of Toby Jugg by name.

Hot on the heels of Neils Orsen ranking No. 16 in Book and Magazine Collector's list of occult detectives (see Steve Whatley's recent post), the culture section of today's Observer ran an article on the 'Top Ten Devils' in films.

The Devil Rides Out comes in at No. 3 !

I haven't bought a copy yet, but I will. I don't know why, but I always learn of these things in the evening when all the booksellers have sold out ...

Anyway, nice to see DW near his rightful place (which is, naturally, at the top !).

It turns out it was "The 10 best Devils" - not just Devils in films.

The rankings (assuming they are to be read from left to right) are :

1. Dante's Inferno
2. Paradise Lost
3. The Devil Rides Out (with a picture of the Devil at the Sabbat in the Hammer film)
4. The Exorcist
5. Codex Glgas (a 13th Century medieval manuscript I hadn't heard of)
6. The Master and Margherita
7. The Russian Gentleman (from Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamozov)
8. Angel Heart (apparently a 1987 De Niro film)
9. The Greatest Story Ever Told
10.The Witches of Eastwick

I hadn't heard of them all, and they seem a pretty mixed bag, but nice that DW ranked in the top three - and I daresay he wouldn't mind being ranked after Dante and Milton - indeed I suspect he would have rather enjoyed it !.

Barry's done it again !

24 minutes 41 seconds into the latest episode of 'Mastermind' in the general knowledge section there is a question about Roger Brook. Sadly, the contestant didnâ€™t know the answer, but when told the correct answer at the end of his round, he gave a wry smile to suggest he should have known the answer. The contestant came second, trailing the winner by five points.

Barry mentions he doesn't actually watch much TV - spotting all these mentions of DW is purely serendipitous, although he's now beginning to think that DWâ€™s profile may be rising.
