Hi Maisonvivante, I had not thought about the connections you have given to The Ninth gate, which is one of my Favourite films. Johnny Depp plays the role really well and the film is really absorbing. I must buy the book. (This sounds like a reference in the film!!!!) Another film to watch is, Eyes ...

I have just seen the 'The Haunted Airman' and really wish I hadn't bothered. As the programme began I started to make notes of the variations between the TV 'fiasco' and the excellent Dennis Wheatley book,'The Haunting of Toby Jugg'. The Jamaican nurse should have been a German Jewess. Uncle Paul de...

Stevie P's Review

Many years before the writing of 'The Haunting of Toby Jugg' , Dennis Wheatley had heard of a school in Devon which was co-educational and run on ultra-modern lines. The pupils would choose to attend classes or not as they liked, lie in bed all day if they wished and even abuse teachers that they di...

The Devil Rides Out - The Masterpiece

Along with many other Dennis Wheatley readers, I believe 'The Devil Rides Out' to be the best book he has written and is generally regarded as one of the best occult works of fiction ever written. This book is one of, if not the most influential books that I have ever read. As a young teenager in th...

Where there's a will....

It seems strange to start a review of 'The Fabulous Valley' by taking a step backwards to my previous book review, 'Black August'. One of the Characters (Kenyon) in 'Black August' asks the question, "What books would you choose if left on a desert island" The three books selected were 'Mar...

Gregory Sallust is Born

This was my first reading of 'Black August' and I really enjoyed it. It is a very dark look at how society would cope/react if law and order were virtually wiped out due to the collapse of the major world economies. It is a very harrowing and thought provoking insight into 'mob rule' and how civilis...

Old Rowley - The King of Kings.

I have always been an avid bookworm and sometime in the seventies decided to buy a set of books called 'Kings and Queens '. One book per monarch. The first book was Charles II by Christopher Falkus. I read this and became totally hooked on the monarch and the Stuart period. I visited various relevan...

Bob, You may have noticed my review of 'Such Power is Dangerous'. I added it to the general topic rather than the Book Reviews as I didn't know how to create a new section for DW books other than the ones listed ie Duke De R and Gregory Sallust. (There wasn't a section for Avril bamborogh, suprising...

Hi Alan, I did think about this prior to commencement. There were two main reasons for doing it in the non-chronological way. Firstly, I liked the idea of varying the type of stories that I was about to read ie war story then Napoleonic etc. Secondly and maybe more obscurely by reading them in the o...

Such Power is Dangerous

I've set out on a quest. The quest is to read all the DW books, starting with the Forbidden Territory (1933) to The Deception Planners (1980). The reason is that there are many books that I have not read and there are several that I would like to read again. Whether I achieve this aim or not I'm not...

I agree with all thats been said.

If these sad people want to wreck things for the genuine members then we should do everything we can to get rid of them.

I totally agree that it needs to be an occult follow up.

I suggest, Strange Conflict first and then Gateway to Hell.

Although its not De Richleau, They used dark forces would make a great film.

My favourite is also de Richleau probably because the first DW book that I read was The Devil Rides out. I was a teenager at the time and I was totally astonished at the content. Was any of this true?? It changed my way of thinking. Isn't it strange though that when you mention DW to an average read...

A letter to posterity - The Lost decade - TV

Is it a coincidence that they are showing the master of Black magic ficion on Halloween!!!!

Its great to see that he is being recognised. Hopefully the value of the second hand books will increase - but not too much as there ar still quite a few that I need!!!.
