Still recovering from the weekend and the 'wow' factor of being in and seeing the places where DW had strong connections. As promised - a few piccies with connections! Extracts from The Launching of Roger Brook : p.25 The town was opposite the western end of the Isle of Wight but lay about four mile...

Now there would be an interesting idea. However, all things are possible - I heard recently that the f...

I think I'll start a new section called Gourmet's Corner ; in the meantime, no Planter's Punch, but a couple more to keep you going: SACK POSSET Beat up the yolks and whites of fifteen eggs, and strain them; then put three-quarters of a pound of white sugar into a pint of Canar...

maybe something wheatleyish like a section of mixing drinks like Planters Punch :D Great idea. Get hold of a copy of his history of Justerini & Brooks: he includes some mixes there! I'll try and dig some out and post a selection. Someone else also promised me scans of a DW contribution to a 60s...

Ignorance, illiteracy, lack of imagination, lowering of standards, PC-ness, sexism, racism, anti-Britishness............. Read DW's Letter to Posterity and work out what DW would think! Seriously (well, maybe I was a bit!) the days of the Boys' Own adventure stories seem to have past. TV and the med...

Lark , Kelley Armstrong? Not a name I know anything about, but I'm sure gloomysundae and Frank Linmarsh will be able to add something to this? Thanks for the compliments, can take those anytime :D. If you have any suggestions for the site, please let me know. I'll probably take no notice, but you n...

Enjoy the trip, and it would be great to see a pic of that wall if its still s...

Incidentally, for those interested in the Library of the Occult series and perhaps missed the link on the main site, have a read of Stan Nicholl's article about when he assisted DW with the project.

Diamondhairdan , this is brilliant stuff. I'd forgotten how much I'd forgotten :-s . I really must get back into re-reading the saga. Coincidentally, I've also just had my appetite whetted by delving back into The Launching... to get as much description of Lymington and Grove Place as possible in r...

Thanks gloomysundae. Interestingly, there are a number of editions to be found on the web, but none of them mention an intro by DW; so unless there was one and it only appeared in this mysterious 'New Era' edition......

Lark - A very warm welcome to you and I look forward to more of the same! And yes, you're probably in the minority age-wise, but certainly not, thank goodness, unique! Re The Devil and all His Works , there's nearly always a copy or two going for reasonable amounts on eBay.co.uk. Give it a try. Mor...
