To be honest, I've never really cared that much whether all of the details add up (I'm a Sherlock Holmes fan, and Doyle never bothered with continuity), but it does fascinate me that DW took enormous pains to make sure that the real facts were accurate, but took less care with his own creations. Lik...

In a way, DW made something of a rod for his back by ageing his characters and putting them in a recognisable real-world background. Like you said, Roger Brook suffers least from this as they are all written in chronological order, and DW does almost seem to have had a game plan in mind from the ver...

Just finished reading this for the first time. What a book! :smt026 After the rather dull FAKED PASSPORTS this book really grabbed hold of me and commanded me to finish it. This is how you write thrillers; so many escapes and captures that you almost feel as exhausted as poor Gregory must be by the ...

Saturdays with Bricks

Just recently I've been having a look at my Wheatley collection and wondering about filling in the gaps. One of the books that I've never seen, let alone read, is SATURDAYS WITH BRICKS. The copies that I've seen on AMAZON are going for between £50 to £60, which suggests that it's pretty rare. I kn...

Pleased to be of service! Even without the DW connection, the programme is a fun way to spend 30 minutes. If you end up showing it at the convention, I think that people will enjoy it.

Edgar, Eric and Dennis

I recently decided to clear out my spare rooms, and found myself with a box full of old video tapes that I must have recorded in the 80s and 90s. There were a load of EDGAR LUSTGARTEN: SCOTLAND YARD programmes from the early 50s, which I had taped off a satellite channel. They're dramatisations of r...

Interestingly, I was also introduced to DW by a woman. She was a friend of my sister who raved about DW so much that I decided that I must check out a few of the novels. That was several decades ago, and I've no idea what happened to my sister's friend. Still have the books, though!

Cibator: No such luck! All of the inclusions were in there, but someone had obviously played the games a long time ago and then slipped them away in some relatively safe nook. They looked as though they had been sat on at some point, but it was just nice to find any old copy. Duffelbag: I'm a really...

I picked up some very nice, if rather beaten up, copies of the Crime Dossiers from Hay on Wye a year or two ago. I also found a very nice 1st edition of THE RISING STORM with dust wrapper at the same time, along with the Sallust omnibus PLOT AND COUNTERPLOT. They didn't cost an enormous amount, eith...

I think the fact that Wheatley sent Matheson a letter thanking him for sticking to the book, says a lot! Matheson wrote back to say that he had seen so many of his own books and short stories murdered by hack screenwriters, that he had made a vow never to do it to anyone else. I can recall an interv...

What a wonderful thought - a DW Black Magic Western!! :rofl (My slightly bizarre sense of humour is working overtime).
Starring Duke Wayne? ;)

I've been enjoying some of the repeats of WTBCI recently shown on satellite TV. One of the incidental pleasures of the programme is listening to the 'Geordies' and then remembering how very posh the same actors sounded in other programmes of the time.

How is the site doing?

Looking throught the 'recent posts' I was quite struck by the fact that nearly all of the recent posts are by me, Charles, and one or two other members. Things do seem a bit moribund at the moment. Have a lot of the old members simply stopped posting, or is this just some sort of seasonal thing?
