Re: The Cabinet War Rooms

This seemed a good place to put this item... I don't know if DW will be mentioned in this book at all, but there's a new volume on Churchill and the Cabinet War Rooms: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/thinking-man/secrets-of-the-underground-bunker-where-churchill-won-world-war No need to buy the book...

Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange of Marvel Comics fame was one of the other great literary (?) loves of my youth. You will not therefore be surprised that I went and saw the movie with the superb Benedict Cumberbatch last week (twice - once in 2D and once in 3D :D ). It was a great movie, and the reason for this post...

The 2017 Convention

Dear All, This is just to confirm that our tenth Convention will be held at Elstree on Saturday 11th November 2017. The reason it is being held a little later is, as agreed at the 2015 Convention, so we can mark the 40th anniversary of DW's death on 10.11.77 on the Friday night. As usual, I will do ...

Dear All, It's nice to see that everyone enjoyed it was much as Nat and I did. I'll start a new thread shortly, but just a reminder that as agreed at the 2015 Convention, our tenth will be held on Saturday 11th November 2017 - again at Elstree. The reason for the slightly later date is so we can mar...

And re 'Total War', the answer is 'very little'. 'Stranger than Fiction' only devotes three pages at the beginning of Chapter Ten to Total War, and the two War Papers on which it was based (14 & 20) are not reproduced. Possibly because Total War (or a version of it) had already been published, a...

Thanks,Darren, I'm delighted the idea finds favour with you. Regrettably so far the only interest I have seen is what you can see on this page, so at the moment we're are some way away from having a critical mas for what Franklin and I would most like to do - to end up with a champagne reception (th...

A London Field Trip - ?

Ken's latest on the 2016 Convention prompts a post on something that Franklin and I have been discussing on-and-off. We have been wondering if at some stage we should have a London Field Trip. We could see the sites (and in two or three places the actual buildings) where DW lived, visit the road whe...

Thanks Ken - your thoughts much appreciated.

I agree with you DW would have been a Brexiteer with reluctance, but I'm sure as with all of us, it would have been a very tough decision.

Be interesting now to see how it all plays out ...

To bring this thread back to Wheatley-land, I really wonder which way DW would have voted. He loved Europe, with its wines and individual cultures, and had strong views on how it should be re-organised post World War II - as evidenced by some of his War Papers reprinted in Stranger Than Fiction. He ...

They are very curious stories, and were originally in the Humphreys collection.

This is the only case I am aware of where stories have been given a 'restricted audience'.

Sign up and enjoy ... and then explain the stories to me :-) !

Best as always !
