DW Article in the current edition of Wormwood

I thought I should make you all aware of an article on DW entitled 'He Wrote of Dark Forces: The Weird World of Dennis Wheatley' by Roger Dobson, which appears in the current edition (Number 19, Autumn 2012) of Wormwood. Wormwood is a twice-yearly periodical concerning 'literature of the fantastic, ...

Thanks for the link Shane. I hadn't thought before to make a thorough search for previously auctioned items.

I've had a very interesting time looking at old lots including items relating to DW and some of my other favourite authors.

Yes, I thought that, given the apparent general lack of interest in DW at present, the set might go for a lot less (ie, somewhere within the estimate). But I guess there are always keen collectors in any field, and it only takes two to be bidding at the same auction to bump the price up.[font=Courie...

Having checked an old bookseller's catalogue, I see that there was a single A4 page Birth Chart with no date. Another item in the same catalogue was an Astrological Chart for another family member dating from 1937 or late 1936, signed F. S. Smith, so that may be a clue. We know that earlier in the 1...

DW's Set of His Own Works Auctioned

Those of you who were at the Convention earlier this month may recall mention of DW's leather-bound set of his own works coming up for auction. The sale was at Christie's in London last Wednesday, and although I didn't attend on a viewing day, I did succumb to the temptation of buying a copy of the...

A genuine DW horoscope (from the 1930's, I think) did turn up in a catalogue back in the 1990's, when lots of DW ephemera was being auctioned.

I have seen one copy in the flesh, and it turns up now and then on ebay in various formats to suit the various different computer systems of the day. How many different versions there were, I don't know. I gather that the player had to send the name of their suspect by post to the game's producers i...

I have yet to watch the main feature, but last night I watched the three new supporting documentaries, one about the making of The Devil Rides Out, the second about the restoration and enhancement of the film, and the last about Dennis Wheatley At Hammer, and I would say that all are excellent. My o...

I can't see how your thoughts could upset or offend anyone Ken. I would echo your last line and say that I feel we're all friends and that we would have fun wherever we got together. I hate what they've done to the hotel, but somehow, after five years, it still feels like home. I agree that more tim...

By Jove! I think you've done it again. Stick a beard and a strange wig on John Carradine, and that could be him.

I can see no earthly reason why the likeness to Mel Brooks should be deliberate.

You're also right in saying that this is entirely pointless; good fun though.

I knew it reminded me of someone! I couldn't think who it was, but you've hit the nail on the head. The beardy guy on the cover of the first edition of this title reminds me of somebody too; any ideas?

As his funeral in Sweden is about to begin, a final 'Farewell' to Iwan Morelius; a good friend, and a man whose many books and articles - like those of the famous novelists about whom he wrote - gave many hours of pleasure to his readers.

Returning from a long holiday, I have just found an e-mail from Martin Hedlund, who is the son of Iwan's widow Margareta. I suspect others may have seen this already, but for those who haven't, it says that Iwan's funeral will be at St. Petri Chapel in Strangnas, Sweden on Wednesday 8th August at 1p...

John Runter, who has attended the last three Conventions, has also met Dennis Wheatley. I know John will be very upset at Iwan's passing, as they were very much contemporaries, and he really took to Iwan when they met at the 2009 Convention. John is a retired journalist, and - like Iwan - had met DW...
