Boxing Day again, and time to remember the founder of this website, the late Bob Rothwell. Where would we be today if Bob hadn't started this website all those years ago, and if Charles hadn't taken over the reins so ably when Bob passed away? I shall raise a glass to them both this evening! Best Wi...

Well, I'd like to see The Search For Roger Brook, because I'm not entirely convinced that he'd allow a drop of water to get the better of him, much less do for his beloved Georgina. Other favourites would be Atlantis Revisited, and Return To The Fabulous Valley. And with tongue firmly in cheek, perh...

Well, without even knowing which of DW's characters you would choose, Alan, I for one would subscribe to your book. It would be absolutely splendid to read some further adventures of old familiar favourites. Maybe if you get enough orders before the book is even written, permission might be forthcom...

Yes, well it seems a shame that you managed to find something good to say about it. I'd intended to suggest that we might award this adaptation some sort of official denunciation on behalf of the website, in order to recognise the enormity of the travesty. Remembering DW's reaction to the film of TT...

Time once more to raise a glass to the memory of Iwan Morelius, on the 84th anniversary of his birth.

Cheers Iwan!

I don't think many people under the age of forty have even heard of DW, never mind his book titles. The black magic titles are the best-known, and probably the only titles generally known by non-fanatics. Dealers at book fairs often have the crime dossiers on offer, probably only for their novelty v...

My choice would be Sir Pellinore Gwaine-Cust, because he sounds an interesting old buffer, and - hopefully - he might offer me champagne by the pint in a silver tankard.

Hurrah! My copy arrived today, and a very handsome volume it is too. This is very well-timed, as just recently I have finished reading Master Of Villainy for the third time. My first thought on the new volume, after having read part of Phil Baker's introduction, is that I hope it won't be too schola...

Many thanks for pursuing this, Jim. I've just ordered - and paid for - my copy. Let's hope it will prove worth the wait and the money. I'm sure it will; 'Master of Villainy' is a good biography (have you read it?), but any volume which can shed new light upon Sax Rohmer will be most welcome. All Bes...

So Darren, you live 'only a few mules from Bolsover'?

How far can a mule go with you on its back?

And what would the few mules' range equate to in miles?

All Best (and Sorry) Steve

PS And where the devil is Bolsover?

I am absolutely certain that the quality (or lack of it) of the illustrations in the Heron edition has been discussed in the Library before, but I'm afraid I've been unable to find the posts, so can't refer you to them. However, I'm sure someone else will manage to locate them. From memory, I think ...

Well that's interesting, Jim.

After I ignored several suggestions from Amazon that I should cancel my order of this title, they cancelled it themselves.

So it looks as though they'd given up hope of it ever seeing the light of day...

Thanks for the good news.

Dennis Wheatley Day

Ah, Dennis Wheatley Day is here again!

The Birthday of our Literary Hero was, of course, 8 January 1897.

Let us all raise a glass at some stage today, and toast dear old Dennis!

Cheers!
