Morning D. I'm still in bed, hungover. Very far from steely-eyed duellist mode.

My dear Charles, I feel I must decline any invitation to participate in your proposed corinthian exhibition. As D could declare, with a surety at least the equal of R Brook's:
'I have little to fear. He must be at least fifteen years older than myself, and he is anything but an agile man.'

Careful there D. I may be a delicate-looking man, with slender, fragile hands and greying hair, but I have no trace of weakness... I'll stand by my words re the British film industry. The Wicker Man gets a possible pass, but all the rest...a load of old toot. I am, however on the same page with you ...

Other than the Amicus portmanteaus, I think most 70s British horror films are rubbish.

I'm afraid I share the widespread apathy to which you allude Darren. I saw the film 30 years ago and still remember the struggle it took to get to the end. However, in his (her?) Amazon review, 'big sam' does conclude with one very laudable point: It falls far short of the dennis wheatley novel on w...

Yes, I got there and the talk was first rate. The venue was an airy, sunlit conference room overlooking the estuary and the audience took up a very respectable 50 or so seats out of the available 70. Charles' discourse focused on colourful vignettes from DW's life -his service on the Ypres Salient, ...

Thank you very much for the links Darren. The YouTube show was very entertaining. As you point out, they do speak very well of the film, but some of the occasional negative comments are rather funny: Host: What about the Goat of Mendes? How do you feel about that effect? John: That Goat...I'm sorry,...

It's a rotten shame you can't make the Convention Darren. It won't be same without you. And it's all the more reason to get cracking with this field trip.

I'd happily give the reduced version a whirl: A tour of the sights, followed by dinner in some excellent company would make for a great day.

In the spirit of the entertainment industry’s current fondness for modish identity politics (vide Ghostbusters 3, the Mad Max remake etc.), may I suggest Whoopi Goldberg as the Duchesse and Graham Norton as Rex?

Well, the student upheaval in Paris 1968 did begin with a row about couples having the right to spend the night together in the campus accommodation blocks.

And Teutonic industrialists and soixante-huitards aside, God only knows what DW would make of the spivs, mountebanks, student union bedwetters and downright loonies who currently lord it over us in Parliament.

Any French ducs out there up for a coup?
