Re: Doctor Strange

I got it from the library recently, and enjoyed it! (I too was a Marvel comics fan, and I like Cumberbatch. He was amazing as The Creature in the National Theatre Frankenstein .) My only complaint was that everything looked dark--possibly to conceal some of the CGI effects--and it was a bit of a str...

Hugh Desmond?

Does anyone here know the name Hugh Desmond? Desmond was one of the pseudonyms of Kathleen Lindsay, who--by various accounts--helped herself a little too freely to other people's published work in preparing her own novels. (According to the Guinness Book of Records , she wrote 904 books under eleven...

Has anyone heard/read any further news about Rebecca Booth's book-length study of the film version, originally announced for December 2018 publication?

Re: The 2018 Convention

Rather later in the year than usual because of a change in management at The Laura Ashley The Manor Hotel in Elstree, I now have firm prices for the Convention and am accepting bookings. This year's booking arrangements are going to be rather different to previous years because the hotel's package ...

Re: Churchill - Darkest Hour

Jean and I saw this film a few weeks ago, and both enjoyed it immensely. We both thought Gary Oldman splendid in the role. I couldn't remember seeing him in anything before, and when you see the actor in his natural state (I mean without make-up, NOT without clothes!) he looks nothing like Churchil...

I downloaded and read the essay on Sunday. Your review is spot on- there's hardly anything new there. And it's all rather clumsily written. If it had cost more than a couple of quid, I'd have considered it a waste of money. It has been issued as a paperback now, with illustrations. Somehow I got th...
