Re: Upgrade Of Site?

Forgive me if I've said this before, but if a website is working well, and to the satisfaction of its users, why 'upgrade' it just for the sake of it? It is due to the modern philosophy that nothing must remain the same for too long, as it will be deemed to be 'old-fashioned' and 'non-progressive.' ...

Re: New Member Introduction

Hi Steve, I too have read all the series in order. I'd started off reading the black magic novels, then gradually progressed to the others. I never thought I'd be interested in Roger Brook, but after reading The Irish Witch, I tried another title - The Rape Of Venice, I think - then decided to read ...

Re: New Member Introduction

Welcome to the Library Steve, Sounds like we started reading DW at around the same time. I hope you might be interested in joining us for a Convention or a Field Trip at some stage. If you've read the complete works in the last two years you must now be an expert. And what a mammoth feat of enduranc...

Re: Birthday Greetings

Well, here we are again - Dennis Wheatley's Birthday! Let's raise glasses - whenever possible - all day long to our favourite author. A Good Health unto All in the name of Dennis Wheatley! Looking forward to raising a glass with you all in person before too long, Steve

Re: Churchill - Darkest Hour

Jean and I saw this film a few weeks ago, and both enjoyed it immensely. We both thought Gary Oldman splendid in the role. I couldn't remember seeing him in anything before, and when you see the actor in his natural state (I mean without make-up, NOT without clothes!) he looks nothing like Churchill...

Re: Anthony Lejeune

It should not be forgotten that in addition to preparing Drink And Ink, Anthony Lejeune also edited DW's final book, The Deception Planners: My Secret War.

He was also kind enough to send words of greeting and good wishes for our second DW Convention, and for another a few years later.

Sorry, should have said before; Jean and I would be interested.

Would we then be (nearly) into double figures?

How many would constitute a critical mass?

Hi Cibator, Interesting that you should use the term 'pot-boiler'. Perhaps you saw offered for sale last year, a copy of BFTUOAB which DW had inscribed for his proof-reader Derek Bradley? DW described the book as "The 'Pot-boiler' to keep the Tax hounds at bay", so your theory that his hea...

Stevie, re point 2): last time I read BFTUOAB, I sought out a copy of Star Raker on DW's recommendation. I found it an engaging novel (about the development of a new aircraft), and whilst it retained my interest to the end, I thought it hardly deserved the high praise which DW gave it. If you should...

First time anybody's wished me that!

I sometimes think of it as 'Walpurgisnacht' - somehow it seems more sinister in German!

Further to this, Ken, Duncan, Alan and others may be interested to know that the current (March 2016) issue of Fortean Times includes a three-page feature on the historical accuracy (or otherwise) of the Harry Price TV drama.

Ah, now the 8th of January also fell on a Friday in 1897.

DW was born just before 8pm.

I hope that will be a convenient time for many to raise a glass of something to toast his Birthday!

Happy DW Day one and all!

Spotted it in the schedule, but missed most of it, so can't really pass judgement. Although I would say that it seemed an original idea for a drama. I wonder how many people these days have heard of Harry Price? Not many, probably. Did any particular aspect of it impress you Ken? Happy New Year to a...
