Re: Hugh Desmond?
Charles Hamilton, alias "Frank Richards", "Martin Clifford", etc, also had a fair few noms-de-machine-à-écrire - he used a typewriter rather than a pen - but many of them were for magazine stories only, not books. (Frank Richards is one of my occasional guilty pleasures.)

Re: Upgrade Of Site?
Without wanting to sound too much like a habitual moaner, can I point out another irritating feature of the site that should be capable of being easily fixed? I refer to the way several punctuation marks (such as quotes, apostrophes, etc) currently appear with extraneous characters in front of them....

Re: Message for Cibator
Thanks, Darren, and well done! You'll find another reply on the actual thread, posted before I'd found this new one.

Upgrade Of Site?
I've been away from the site for quite a while recently, partly because little seemed to be happening, and partly because other matters were engaging much of my attention. On my return, I've noticed we seem to have the "Most Recent Posts" feature restored, even if not quite in its original...

Re: They Found Atlantis
Bravo, Darren! Thanks for clearing that up. Shows the value of teamwork - I wouldn't have had the first idea where to look (didn't even know there'd been a Daily Mail serialisation). Even with the rediscovered text now making relative sense, it's still a bit of a clunky sentence, don't you think? Es...

Wonderful news! Does this mean there'll have to be a revised edition of The Devil Is A Gentleman?

Have a look here here (about 4-5 posts down) for an account of how Jim and I saw Gary O in something like his natural state back in the early 80s.

Birthday Greetings
Here's wishing our favourite author a happy and memorable 121st birthday! And while I'm here: the site seems to have been very quiet this past twelve months or so. Few reviews if any, and most posts apparently concerned with the Convention. Is everyone too busy these days to comment on the books, or...

Very interesting! Wonder what the themes that DW wouldn't have tackled might be? That cover is reminiscent of the one on my omnibus edition of M R James ghost stories - the path leading through a sinister-looking forest to .... what?? (And: I don't like to sound too picky, but the incorrect spelling...

Thanks, Charles. Sounds like it never was correct, then! (Although I've a nagging memory of seeing what would have been the proper version somewhere, many years ago.) The overall sense is clear enough of course, but it would have been nice to know how Menes made the jump from mining duties to the in...

The EU Referendum
Well ladies and gentlemen: today is a crucial one for the future of the United Kingdom. Please give this matter your most careful consideration, and be sure to vote. Your opinion does count! I think I know which way our favourite author would have jumped, but who knows what the right choice will tur...
